Homologated to carry a pillion, it's sold as a single-seater with pillion parts available separately, setting a new standard with an increased power output of 130 PS, and boasting sharper ergonomics, coupled with upgraded WP APEX suspension and never-before-seen electronic functionality. Designed, developed, and produced in Austria.

LED Headlight:
When day turns to night, the dynamic lightweight LED headlight equipped on the KTM 990 DUKE R serves its ultimate purpose, with a smart touch as well. Daytime running lights automatically adjust in intensity and function in darker conditions, an automatic low beam offers assistance by remaining lit for a moment even after the ride is complete, and its improvements are clear.

Adjustability:
From the fully-adjustable WP APEX front suspension – including an upgraded, stiffer 48 mm fork – and the rear with the WP APEX shock, to the adjustable handlebars and levers, the choice is yours when it comes to dialing in the ideal sport-focused set-up. Commitment is the final ingredient to power ahead of the pack.

TFT-DISPLAY:
Increased to 8.8″ in size, the new TFT touchscreen landscape dashboard takes functionality to new heights with its intuitive design, packed with inductive technology. With improved readability and optimization at its core, it is absolutely READY TO RACE. Full information available in the KTM TECH GUIDE.

Bodywork:
Aggressive by nature and with an 'R' on the tank spoilers that immediately signals its top-of-the-line DNA, riders will instantly recognize THE PUNISHER on first glance. Taking inspiration from various heritage models in the KTM range and elevating the end result to meet modern demands, the White colorway is as cool as it is bold – at speed or at a standstill.

Launch Control:
Think the corners are important? They are. But wait until you experience the starting capabilities of the KTM 990 DUKE R. Launch Control accelerates you ahead with pro-like assistance, developed in the highest levels of racing, and powering you ahead of the competition.

Engine:
Remaining at 947 cc, the R version's parallel twin LC8c motor produces an additional 7 PS – up from 123 PS to 130 PS – and with 103 Nm of torque. Improved mapping unleashes its power from within, creating an adrenaline-pumping experience that comes courtesy of being the most compact twin in class. Based upon the KTM 990 DUKE platform already in the line-up, the results speak for themselves. Put simply, the best just got even better.

Ride Modes:
Choose your output like never before, with a new Ride Mode concept that results in customization across the board. Four standard modes – Rain, Street, Sport and the newly-introduced Custom option – offer next-level personalization, while the additional trio of performance-based Track and Custom configurations are available as technical accessory options. To help you make an informed decision of which technical accessory best suits you, enjoy all features in DEMO MODE for the first 1,500 km.

Track Mode:
Put all BULLSHIT aside, and race the clock. Or your rivals. Either way, Track Mode takes the benchmark to 11, punching hard above its weight and ensuring you will lap with intense effect.Take what you need, drop what you do not, throttle response is of the essence, and Launch Control takes centerstage off the starting line. In Track Mode the Anti-wheelie can be set to five levels, from very low- to very high and turned off.

Footpegs:
Distinctive in function, and updated with aggressive intentions, the aluminum footpeg placement has been revised – now 33 mm backwards and 12,5 mm upwards. Because of that, the rider will enjoy more lean angle enabling fast riding.

Ergonomics:
Tougher than any of its predecessors, the R brings with it a bolder stance. A 15 mm higher seat height and with that same amount of extra ground clearance, it's designed to feel as compact as it can be, while accomodating a wide range of riders, and the result is the most lightweight, agile, performance-focused mid-class Naked.

Seat:
Take one look at the KTM 990 DUKE R and its purpose is evident. This single-seater is built to race and although it can carry pillions, the objective is performance-first. While the base seating character remains unchanged, it does stand at 840 mm (up from 825 mm) due to its upgraded suspension. Agility is key, without sacrificing what you'd expect form it on the road.

Brakes:
More power and improved handling naturally results in more speed, but hit your marks courtesy of radially-mounted, four-piston Brembo Stylema monoblock calipers and an adjustable Brembo MCS master cylinder taking care of front braking duties. Larger floating discs, lighter components, and a more precise feel ensures the ultimate feedback when it counts.

Frame:
Torsional stiffness and rider feel were prioritized when developing the KTM 990 DUKE's tubular frame, which also forms the foundations of the R version. It's built with a sport-orientated personality, with both agility and stability combining to make for an immersive riding experience. An updated linkage mounting point has been introduced, without affecting the bike's value of stiffness. It also packs an aluminum die-cast subframe, which integrates side air intakes for form and function.

Swingarm:
Utilizing a linkage swingarm construction on the new LC8c Nakeds for the first time, the shape is visually the same as the KTM 990 DUKE from the side, but on top it has been adapted to connect the linkage system. Less material means more space, which allows for the triangle lever and push-rods to connect to the frame. Still gravity die-casted, still flexible, and revolutionary in its introduction.

Fork:
Front-end feel takes on a new meaning when it comes to the KTM 990 DUKE R, highlighted by a 48 mm WP APEX Open Cartridge upside-down fork that has 143 mm of travel. It's no less than 34% stiffer and has upgraded settings that promote extreme performance, paired with a new forged aluminum triple clamps to match the flex of the fork. What riders can count on is a more planted feel and with better control. It's fully-adjustable, simple to dial in, and inspires confidence from the first time you drop into a turn.

Rear Shock:
The new WP APEX shock at the rear complements the fork to provide state of the art suspension. Specifically, travel at the rear has been reduced by 10 mm to 140 mm in comparison with the existing KTM 990 DUKE, excelling by virtue of a linear spring that maintains comfort in more relaxed environments. Also now with a longer wheelbase of 1,481 mm – increased by 5 mm – the R has all bases covered.

Wheels and Tires:
Get a grip with the Michelin Power Cup 2 tires – 120/70-R17 on the front and 180/55-R17 on the rear – fitted to the KTM 990 DUKE R to deliver excellent performance in various road conditions. Coupled with lightweight alloy wheels that are adapted take over from the SUPER DUKE R model.
